Tapan Moharana

India

Tapan Moharana (b.1989) is a multidisciplinary artist who received his MFA in Sculpture from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, India (2013). Mohrana was recently part of a residency organized by Utsha Foundation for Contemporary art, Bhubaneswar (2021). The artist has been included in several group exhibitions such as Shared Spaces, Kala Chaupal, Gurugram (2019), Returning to the Earth: Ecology and Urbane, Italian Embassy and Cultural Centre, New Delhi (2018) to name a few, and has held a solo exhibition The Cube at Paper Mountain Initiative, Perth, Australia (2017). He is also a recipient of the Inlaks Fine Art Award, Mumbai (2017).

Moharana’s artistic practice engages and questions the notion of land, displacement, and the politics of ecology. His current practice is influenced and developed through amalgamations of various local and indigenous art forms like shadow play and shadow theatre in his neighborhood.
