Sandeep T K
Sandeep Tk is an artist from Thalassery, Kerala; his mediums are photographs, videos, and text based drawings looking at his queer class caste colour experiences by positioning himself as someone who transcended class from a working-class background to an upwardly mobile circle and his interpersonal relationships and experience of this journey of fitting into a socially accepted legitimate culture of different spaces that he inhabited.
Sandeep had two solo exhibitions at Gallery Sumukha in Bangalore, and his recent works have been exhibited at ADA Slight Gallery in Toronto.
Sandeep had showcased/screened his works at Landes museum Zurich, Kunst Museum Wolfsburg; Serendipity Art Festival Goa, Khoj Delhi, Villa Renata Basel, Kyotography KG+ Japan, Vantage point Sharjah, Belo Horizonte’s International festival of photo biannual in Brazil, The Palace International Queer Film Festival, Bristol; Bangalore Queer Film Festival; and Festival of Video Art by Indian Contemporary artists among others.
Sandeep was chosen as one of five Serendipity Arles Grantees in recognition of lens-based media work in South Asia. In 2022, he was awarded the Pro Helvetia Studio Residency Award to conduct archival research in Switzerland, as well as the Robert Bosch Crossing Borders grant to document alternative families in Berlin, space 118 fine art award and Experimenter Generator co-production grant and amplify photo grant. In 2021, he was among the five artists selected for the Khoj Peers Residency in Delhi. In 2020, he won the InlaksFine Art Award in India, and in 2020, he received the FICA Emerging Artist Award in collaboration with Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation.
