Jit Natta
Jit Natta, a socially engaged artpractitioner based in Kolkata and Ashokenagar (West Bengal), studied at theBengal Fine Arts College, then Kala Bhavana, Shantiniketan, and is now pursuinga PhD from Jadavpur University. Jit’s practice is rooted in the heritage of theNatta Community, a group historically tied to indigenous performative forms.Hehas received the Inlaks Fine Art Award 2024, Next Step Residency 2024 at 1Shanthi Road Gallery, Khoj x Arthshila Residency 2023, and Udichi Summer ArtResidency 2023. Jit’s practice spans sculpture, installation, lens-based media,performance, printmaking, and collective processes of art practice todecolonize the methods of representation and bridge popular aesthetics as anencounter of multi-sensory experiences of public engagement. His practiceimitates extensive research on the tools of indigenous representation,exploring the relationship with the body, materiality, collective memories.
